The past few months have seen an influx of betting companies in the country.
Sports betting has become the order of the day.
It started with just one company and now everyone wants a share of the cake. Have you heard about Mcheza?
This unprecedented growth has come with many tales, both good and bad from the so called gamblers, some have turned into overnight millionaires while others have lived to regret why they discovered the game.
Log into social media every weekend and you will understand how deep rooted sports betting has become, especially among the youth, me included.
I have been in the game for a while now and I must admit that sports betting is a risky affair, you can either gain so much or lose all your money in a flash.
I have heard so many stories of people condemning how evil sports betting is and I totally disagree with their biased opinions.
Personally, betting has been of great help to me, I have learnt one or two things that will be instrumental in my life as a young man competing for resources and job opportunities in our ever collapsing economy.
Betting has taught me never to lose hope in life, anything can happen at anytime, it doesn't matter whether you are running out of time or not, something can happen.
Let's say you are a football fanatic; Arsenal is playing against New Castle and you have placed a bet on the gunners to win the match in normal time.
It is the closing minutes of the game and it's still dead-locked 0-0. If it ends this way, you lose your money, you are almost giving up, and then suddenly, just before the match ends, Ozil swings in a wonderful cross and BANG! Olivier Giroud heads it in. 1-0! To the gunners, Your money is safe.
I have won bets with 2 seconds to go, and that has helped me realise that losing hope should never be an option in life.
The second life skill I have learnt from betting is about taking risks.
Life is all about taking calculated risks. Look around you, all the successful people you see driving big cars and living their dreams once took calculated risks that propelled them to their dreams. If you want to be successful in life, you have to take risks and sports betting is a good place to practise the skill. Risk taking is not taught in class.
Thirdly, I have learn the importance of patience. The nature of sports betting demands that you have to be patient and a clear mind to place your bets and wait for the outcome.
Just like in life, you have to be patient for things to work out. Arnold H. Glasow once said that the key to everything is patience, you get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it.
And lastly, sports betting has taught me how to accept and deal with defeat, life it is not all about winning, losing is also a part of the game.
The ball is now in your court, whether you choose to see sense in this or not is your decision, but whatever you do, just let us gamblers gamble in peace.
