A report released by CUE directed that the 10 campuses be closed within 90 days and students therein be relocated to the other accredited campuses of the university.

The campuses affected are: Ogembo, Eldoret, Nyamira, Isebania, Kapenguria, Kehancha, Eldama Ravine, Migori and Kabarnet.

In an inspection report submitted to Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i the 10 campuses fell below the expected threshold.

This came as a shock especially to the varsity's management and staff members who did not see any reason for commission to order closure of the 10 campuses.

"I was with the officers from the CUE during the inspection of the campuses and according to the list of requirements, we had attained almost everything they required. I'm shocked to learn about the closure," said Bro Francis Kerongo, the assistant Dean of Students.

However, students from the university's Main Campus seemed to be comfortable with the move, saying it was a good move by CUE.

"13 campuses are too many owing to the challenges we are still facing at the Main Campus. These include inadequate lecture halls, hostels and delay in issuing transcripts," said Reghan Otieno.

The students said they were not opposed to the opening of several satellite campuses, but wanted their Main Campus to be developed first.

If at all the directive will be effected, only three accredited campuses of the varsity will remain functional.
