Over 7,000 youth and women from Kisumu are set to benefit from an empowerment programme.
The county government of Kisumu last year partnered with Kenya College of Accountancy University’s Centre for Entrepreneurship and Leadership, and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and launched the Entrepreneurship Mentorship Programme.
The on-going programme is aimed at accelerating economic empowerment and enterprise development through capacity building in entrepreneurship activities and the promotion of agribusiness.
“The selection process has begun and currently 400 have been selected in four sub counties but the exercise continues this semester,” said Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma.
The governor said his government takes pride in the youth as the future leaders of this country and continue to sensitise them on enterprise development, taking advantage of 30 per cent access to government procurement opportunities and strategising for devolved functions.
Ranguma stated that as a county government, they are committed to creating a conducive environment for businesses to relocate or come to Kisumu to compete globally through innovative policies, vibrant technology driven, liberalised and competitive trade and industrial sector that significantly contributes to economic growth and employment opportunities.
“We also continue to identify talent among the youth and developing them for economic gain,” said Ranguma.
