Kenyatta Girls Secondary School in Makongeni Principal Patrick Muiruri has asked parents to engage their school-going children during the long holidays by assigning them enough chores to keep them busy.
Speaking during the school closing ceremony on Tuesday, Muiruri further asked parents to limit their children's visits and long stays at their far away relatives' homes saying that could compromise their morals.
"Many children are now very eager to go and spend their December holidays at their far away relatives' homes either upcountry or in the towns. Parents on the other hand are also willing to allow them to go. That is not something I would advise," he said.
The principal added that teenagers need close supervision of the parents and visits should be restricted to less than a week.
"Teenagers and especially these girls shouldn't be away from you for a period exceeding one week. Children in the lower primary can be afforded that leisure but not these teenagers", he said.
He also asked the parents to allow the children some time to do their private studies to ensure they do not forget what they learnt during the year.
