Parents from Mavoko sub county have been urged to take good care of their children during the festive season to prevent them from engaging in illicit activities.

This call was made by the region's Maendeleo Ya Wanawake chair lady Angeline Mutethia, who said parents and especially mothers should be more responsible in taking care of their children.

"Mothers should responsibly take up their parenting roles, a lot of things are apparently happening in our villages across the sub county. Mothers should not allow their children to go to discos," said Mutethia.

Mutethia who addressed the press in Athi River Town Monday said female children were more vulnerable, arguing that neglecting children meant exposing them to ill minded persons.

"There are many children loitering in the region especially within our slums, our girls will be defiled if parents are not careful," she said.

She said some of them had been influenced by their peers and were already under influence of drug and substance abuse including alcohol consumption.

Mutethia warned parents who neglect their children that the women organisation would take stern actions against them.
