A Narok town bound matatu veered off the road and plunged into a ditch near Mai Mahiu trading center on Friday morning.The early morning accident led to a partial jam along the ever busy Narok-Mai Mahiu road before a breakdown was called to tow the matatu.

Brian Njeru, a driver of the ill-fated matatu, blamed then incident to failed breaks.

"This was a case of failed breaks because I tried to evade hitting a pedestrian but lost control because I was in high speed," Njeru said.

The driver dismissed claims that he was drunk.

"My conscience cannot allow me to drink and driver, never!" he said.
