Kenyans travelling to western Kenya from Nakuru town have lamented over the increased fare by public transport vehicles terming it as unfair.
A spot check at the main bus stage in Nakuru on Wednesday established that bus fare to most parts of the country has been hiked with the western parts being the most affected.
Alice Akinyi a passenger travelling to Kisumu said her husband was forced to cancel his journey because they could not afford the fare.
"From here to Kisumu is normally Sh600 but it has been hiked to Sh1000 and we cannot just afford. My husband will stay back while I go with the children," said Akinyi.
Emily Adagala who was travelling to Kakamega also lamented saying that the hike in fare was an extra burden to Kenyans.
"I wonder why they have to increase fare a time like this when everyone is travelling. They are giving us an extra burden," she said.
With only a day to Christmas, travellers are scrambling to make it to their rural areas to celebrate the holiday with their loved ones
