A mobile phone of a man following court proceedings on Thursday at Ogembo law courts was confiscated for ringing contrary to the court regulations.

The phone interrupted the court proceedings for a while because the ringing tone attracted the attention of everyone in the court and all turned their heads towards its bearer.

The phone owner, identified as Robert Marube, tried to cancel the call but before he could do it, the guards had already handcuffed him.

The presiding senior principal magistrate, Naomi Wairimu, ordered that the man be detained in the court cells for the whole day and his mobile phone and identification card be retained in court till Monday morning.

The magistrate told those in court that Marube was to be an example to all those who failed to observe simple instructions pinned all over the court rooms to switch off their mobile phones or set them on silent mode.

She observed that most of those attending in Court did not bother to read whatever poster was next to where they sat, noting that Marube was seated next to the wall where the notice of switching off mobile phones was placed.

She told all those in court to ensure they observed the regulations of various proceedings.

She said that just like in the church, bank or any other meetings, the court also needed its due respect as clearly stated on all notice boards and walls in the Court room.
