Speaking at Macheo Children's Home in Thika on Thursday during an end of the year visit, Mueni stated that the current curriculum has been wasteful saying it only focuses on class work.

The announcement to review the curriculum was made on Wednesday by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i when he released the 2015 KCPE results.

"I have talked on the need to review our curriculum in several forums and I am glad that the government will start the process in the coming days," Mueni said.

She added: "We are expecting that now the emphasis will not only be in class work but also on the learner's other potentials which has been lacking in the current system".

Mueni noted that over 200,000 candidates who sat the exams may end up being rendered not very useful by the current system which uses exams as a measure of achievement in school.

The review the curriculum is expected to kick-off in January after it is launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta and end in 2018.
