Four suspects have been arrested in Thika after they were allegedly linked to the burning of the Makongeni market stalls last month.
This was revealed by Thika OCPD Erastus Muthamia during an exclusive interview from his office where he said that the investigations are ongoing, to establish the perpetrators of the fire and bring them to justice.
He stated that the four have been interrogated and have confessed to be among the team which started the fire saying that they were paid Sh1,000 each by a man they knew as Kamau who have since then gone missing.
The officer said that the suspects were supposed to be paid Sh500 that night and the rest after they had completed the job, but Kamau did not pay the arrears after the job and have not been seen since then.
The area police boss said that they have been provided with a phone number which they are currently using for investigations and tracking down the suspect to reveal the real perpetrators of the arson and also bring him to justice for conspiring and committing a felony.
“We have four suspects in custody who have confessed to be part of the gang who torched the market, they have also revealed a man by the name Kamau 'wa mananasi' who is still at large and is said to have coordinated the arson,” the officer said.
