A 20-year-old man is locked at Kilimani Police Division after he allegedly defiled a seven-year-old girl at Soweto west village in Kibera.

The alleged perpetrator identified as Francis Okoth is said to have lured the girl using a ndazi before committing the act on Sunday evening. He was caught by residents who responded to an alarm raised by the victim.

"I came home at 4 pm from work and found neighbours crowding my house. They informed me of what transpired few minutes before my arrival because the girl was still helplessly lying down there. The perpetrator was also in the hands of the residents who wanted to kill him," narrated the victim’s father.

"My daughter explained to me that he was lured by the man using a ndazi after which he told her to lie down a directive she innocently obeyed. The girl screamed and that is when the neighbours responded and caught the man on the act. We took the girl for medical attention at Shinning Hope For Community (SHOFCO) before proceeding to Olympic AP camp to report," he added.

According to a witness who rescued the man from the wrath of the public, the perpetrator could not deny his actions since he was caught red-handed.

"I pleaded with the people not to kill him because that could not provide justice to the victim. He could not deny what he did at that time because they even strip him to confirm further that he defiled the girl. We took him to the police station at Olympic AP camp," said Rev David Muganda, a resident who calmed down a charged crowd from killing the perpetrator.

Administrative Police officer on duty at Olympic AP camp confirmed on Monday that the suspect was taken to Kilimani Police Division awaiting to be arraigned in court.
