Police in Makongeni on Friday arrested two suspects and recovered stolen household goods from a rented house in Gachagi slums.
According to a police source, the officers had been tipped on Monday this week but the police chiefs delayed the raid on the suspects before the members of public raided the house this morning and recovered the goods before calling the police.
Thika OCS Robert Okinya, speaking from the scene, said that they had been planning on how to storm and ambush the suspects but the public were impatient and raided before the police.
He added that the residents demolished a part of the room which was giants their plans as the police could have raided calmly contrary to how the members of public did.
Okinya said that the police arrived on time and arrested the two men who were inside the house and recovered electronics such as television sets, mobile phones and other household goods.
The OCS called on anyone who had lost their items to arrive at Thika police station to identify the items and help the police investigate on the crime.
He urged residents who have been victims of house breaking, mugging and robbery with violence to go the.
The officer commended the public for sharing information that will lead in combating crime in the slum but faulted them for the action before the police arrived.
The police boss said fighting crime should be a collective responsibility and everyone should take his responsibility and leave what is not in his jurisdiction adding that the suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
