Police in Nakuru have sounded a warning to bar and club owners within the central business district and its environs against selling alcohol and other drugs to underage persons.
Speaking in her office on Wednesday, Central Deputy OCPD Janet Wasige noted that many young people take advantage of the festive season to engage in drug abuse and alcoholism because of being idle.
She regretted the levels of irresponsibility by a majority of parents and other care givers saying that it had led to a breed of youths that were very hard to deal with.
“What is being witnessed in our societies today is sad because the people who are supposed to inject good morals to our youth are the ones leading to their moral decay,” she said adding that a special team of plain clothed police will be at different hot spots notorious for encouraging underage drinking.
He called on managers and club patrons to ensure that nobody below the age of 18 was allowed into their premises to make their work easier.
“Make our work as officers easier by sticking to the laid down rules and regulations because when something hands, we are the first ones to be accused of not being vigilant enough,” the OCPD noted.
She called on parents to engage candidates who had just concluded their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams on something constructive saying that such transition periods were dangerous because they always want to experiment things they never did while in school.
