Administration police officers laid down their weapons and armed themselves with the Bible for a whole week to preach to residents from Athi River Sub-County as a way of fighting crime.
Addressing journalists at Makadara Shopping Centre in Athi River town during a crusade hosted by Athi River Administration Police Officers on Sunday, Reverend Inspector Joseph Mvuria, the Administration Police Evangelistic Team (APET) coordinator, Eastern region said guns cannot change criminals in a society.
"As security agents from Eastern region through APET, we have embarked on biblical preaching which has a great mission to enhance security through evangelism having learned that guns cannot positively change criminals. I have been preaching for the last 17 years in service and I have seen the magnitude of transformation it has created to criminals across the country," said Mvuria.
Mvuria said APET had invited more than 20 administration officers from various different counties which included Machakos, Makueni, Embu, Nairobi, Kajiado and Murang'a counties including others from Rural Border Patrol and Security of Government Buildings Units, all who participated in all the crusades conducted by the team in Athi River for the whole week.
He said the officers conducted several crusades in various parts of the sub-county which included Slaughter, Kanaani and Sofia villages, Athi River and Makutano junction markets, Makadara shopping centre, with a major crusade at Njoguini village in outskirts of Athi River town which he revealed went on throughout the week in the evenings and ended on Sunday November 15.
"Firearms do not transform lives since some criminal activities are inborn. We have seen several hardcore criminals arrested, taken to prisons with the intent of transforming them positively to fit into the society but after completing their jail terms, they return to the society to continue with the same criminal activities while others become worse than they were before being taken to jail," said Mvuria.
