Police on Thursday morning gunned down a suspected gangster in Juja town after and attempted robbery in one of the wholesale shops.
Ruiru OCPD Isaac Thuranira said the man was shot after police in the area answered to a distress call at 6am from members of the public after a group of seven robbers invaded the area.
He said that police challenged the men to stop and when they started to escape, they opened fire gunning down one of them as the others escaped with gunshot injuries.
He asked medical facilities in the area to report any person coming for treatment with gunshot or related injuries.
One of the residents, who asked not to be named, said that they had arrived at the shop to open as usual at 6am when five people arrived at the shop and ordered everyone to lie down and hand over their phones. Two of their accomplices had remained behind.
He said that a man who had been in an inner room setting up the shop called the area chief who later arrived with the police minutes later.
Thuranira lauded the members of public for informing the police immediately and said that they will continue securing the residents against any attacks.
The officer said they have launched investigations adding they are pursuing the six who escaped.
The body of the deceased suspect was taken to Thika’s General Kago funeral home.
