Police in Gachie, Kiambu county have launched a manhunt for three armed gunmen who allegedly shot and injured three people on Tuesday night at Gachie shopping centre.

Speaking to journalists from his office on Wednesday, Kiambu OCPD Stephen Nge’tich said the manhunt for the gang that escaped after their attempted robbery is on.

He said that police are combing the area so as to arrest the gang which locals claim has been terrorizing them.

The police boss said that the gang raided three shops at Gachie shopping center and shot three people in the process.

“We have mounted a serious search of three gunmen who shot and injured three people on Tuesday night after their attempt to steal was thwarted,” he said.

He said the gang escaped after their plan to raid an M-Pesa shop and a gas cylinder shop was thwarted.

Nge’tich has since asked locals to volunteer information that will help in arresting the gunmen. He warned that police will not tolerate criminal’s acts and that surveillance will be stepped up in the area. Nge’tich said that they (police) have adequate mechanism to crack down on lawbreakers.

There have been concerns by residents in the area over deteriorating security. Locals claim that security in the area is wanting and want the police to up their game.

Last week a bodaboda operator was robbed and beaten up by criminal gangs posing as passengers at  Gachie shopping centre.

Gachie Member of County Assembly (MCA) Erick Mariga has also appealed for security operations to get rid of the said criminals.
