Police officers in Likoni, Mombasa County have recovered a firearm from a building under construction in Mrima area.
Area OCPD Willy Simba said they had received information from members of the public about a suspect in the area.
Mr Simba said it was during the search for the suspect that they found the gun wrapped in a worn out sack and tucked in a shallow hole.
“After receiving the information, the OCS and his team went out to search for the suspect and their search yielded this weapon that is in good condition.”
Mr Simba confirmed that police are following crucial leads to arrest the suspect adding that the suspect is being sought by police over armed robberies in Likoni and other parts of the Coastal region.
Speaking on Monday at his office, the OCPD noted that Likoni has been experiencing armed robberies adding that the police believe the firearm was used in a spate of robberies by criminals in several areas in Likoni.
“There has been a spate of attacks in Likoni and we believe this firearm was used to carry the attacks. We will send it for ballistic analysis to find out who the owner is and when it was last used,” added Mr Simba.
