Police in Thika gunned down a theft suspect after he tried snatching a hand bag from a woman near Thika main stage.
It is alleged that the suspect has been involved in muggings in Thika town and has been arrested severally but was eventually released.
The police who were guarding the Thika Barclays bank said that the suspect tried snatching the hand bag but when the woman overpowered him, he started beating him up.
Thika OCPD Mr Erastus Muthamia asked residents to partner with the police and help in the fight against crime and lawlessness.
Speaking to journalists in his office, Muthamia appealed for public support in the fight against crime. He said police are ready to work with the members of the public so as to effectively pursue and arrest suspected criminals.
He said that members of the public who provide information to the police will not be intimidated adding that the police force has reformed and that there is need for the public to trust law enforcers.
The officer said police in the area have mounted 24-hour patrols to guarantee the safety of residents during the festive seasons.
He said criminals will not be tolerated adding that police were well equipped to pursue suspects.
The OCPD also asked residents to embrace the Nyumba Kumi initiative observing that Nyumba Kumi will help in the fight against crime.
The OCPD cautioned residents against engaging in activities that will threaten peace and order in the area.
The body of the deceased suspect was taken to General Kago morgue in Thika.
