Matungulu youths have been advised against hanging on lorries as the act can lead to accidents and eventually deaths.

The youth were told hanging on trucks especially those transporting sand was risky.

Speaking to this reporter on Wednesday, Matungulu OCPD Joseph Chesire said there have been cases of accidents arising from youth hanging on trucks ferrying sand from the sub county.

The officer confirmed the habit is common among youth in the area.

Mr Chesire said school kids were avoiding paying fare by opting to hang on trucks carrying sand.

This, he said, was risky since they do it without the knowledge of the drivers.

Chesire said the matter needed to be addressed as soon as possible before it gets out of hand.

He observed that many parents were not aware of what their children are doing once they are out of their sight.

He called upon the parents to assist in guiding their children against the vice to avoid accidents and explain to them the danger they are exposing themselves in by hanging on trucks.
