Parents and guardians with children under the age of five in Gatundu South have been advised to ensure that their children do not miss out on the ongoing polio vaccination.

Speaking to journalists on Monday at Gatundu South District Hospital, Dr John Kamau the officer in-charge of the facility asked parents and guardians to make sure that their children under five are immunised against polio.

Dr Kamau said that health officials are traversing through the constituency to administer the vaccination.

“We are advising parents and guardian to cooperate with the health officials who are administering the polio vaccine,” he said.

The Gatundu South health official said they are targeting 15,000 children in the exercise that started on Saturday.

He asked parents who will not be visited by the health officials to take their children to the nearest health centres.

“The vaccine is also being administered at all public health centres and parents are encouraged to take their children for the same,” he said.

Dr Kamau said that at least 7,000 children had been vaccinated against polio by Sunday and that more are expected to be vaccinated before the end of the exercise on Wednesday this week.
