The Jamhuri Day celebrations at the Thika sub county stadium on Friday witnessed a low turnout as most residents decided to stay away from the venue.

However, this did not dampen the spirits in the fete as there were plenty of entertainment and thrilling activities in the venue.

Thika sub county commissioner Jeremiah Gicheru however faulted politicians from the area for absconding national holiday celebrations which led to the low turnout of members of the public.

All elected and nominated leaders from the area were missing and the DCC faulted them, saying that he could not answer any question of leadership in the area in their absence.

Meanwhile, it was business as usual in Thika town and in the estates as most people went about their businesses as though it was not a public holiday.
