Residents of Kisumu planning to register for National Youth Service jobs have been told not to register using the BVR kits.
Nyando MP Fred Outa told locals to avail only their identity cards for registration. Outa said BVR kits registration is an early voting for the Jubilee administration for the 2017 general election.
He said locals are not against NYS jobs but are suspicious of the mode of registration.
“This process of registering our people using BVR kits is suspect and should be stopped. Let our people interested in that work to use their identity cards for registration,” he said.
Speaking in Kisumu on Thursday during Kisumu County ODM meeting attended by party chairman Prof Ayiecho Olweny and Kisumu Senator Prof Anyang Nyong’o, Outa said the government should first address corruption in NYS.
Kisumu Women Representative Rose Nyamunga told Kisumu residents to be wary of the cleaning programme. Nyamunga said that cleaning Kisumu city should not be a national government when there is a county government.
“What does it entail to clean Kisumu, must the national government come don’t in this era of devolution to come collect garbage and open up drainages, I don’t think so,” he said.
She told Governor Jack Ranguma to enlist those youth in the cleaning programme and pay them instead of allowing the national government to meddle in the county affairs.
