Businesswomen across Kisumu have condemned politicians for plunging the country in an election mood following early campaigns.
Led by their Jessica Akoth, they said politicians across the country are hurting the country with early campaigns considering that elections are more than a year away.
Akoth said that Kenyans are being divided and engaging in politics rather than developing the country's economy.
"It is sad that politicians do not have the interests of the Kenyan people at heart. We elected them to serve us with the aim of development but look at what is happening across the country. If we waste a whole year in the name of campaigns then when will we develop," Akoth said.
Akoth said when political temperatures rise in any country, investors get scared and shy away from investing in a country.
"We all need investors to come but we are scaring them away. Our country has a history of violence in relations to elections. Having this in mind investors will shy away in fear," Akoth added.
Akoth called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to tighten the grip on those engaging in early campaigns.
Akoth was addressing the press at a Kisumu Hotel on Saturday morning.
