A section of ODM party youths from Kitutu Chache South have issued a one-month ultimatum to the party’s disciplinary committee to excommunicate an MP on disloyalty grounds.
Mr Richard Onyonka, who was elected on ODM ticket, has been courting with Jubilee government, leading to discomfort among the party’s staunch supporters in his backyard.
Led by Youth League leader Peter Nyangweso, the youths urged the party to move in speed and exercise its authority under the political parties act to send Mr Onyonka packing.
“We want to make it clear to the ODM disciplinary committee that we are tired with accommodating somebody who isn’t loyal to the party’s manifesto or ideologies. He should be expelled from the party and subjected to a by-election. We have only given them a month to do so or else we seek other alternatives,” he said.
They said the move will restore sanity within the party ahead of 2017 polls insisting the region was still intact in the opposition.
“There is nothing to fear because this is a CORD zone. Even if we go for a by-election, we are sure of a victory. It’s therefore important to revoke membership of party rebels, Onyonka being one of them to restore sanity within our party. Otherwise we will be forced to complete the party drop him since the law protects that. Let him decamp to Jubilee formerly and leave us in peace,” he added.
The youths also challenged the party to push for the release of Mr Don Bosco Gichana, who is currently remanded in Tanzania over money laundering claims, insisting that the neighbouring county’s authorities have taken long to prosecute the case.
“Don (Bosco) is our party member and we are worried that the top leadership of the party has remained mum on his irregular apprehension and subsequent detention by Tanzania. He should be handed over to the country to be tried in case they insist on the money laundering claims,” Nyangweso added.
