Members of the public in Nakuru have raised concern over the manner in which fees raised from visitors touring the area is being handled. They claim that those who are tasked with collecting such fees do not provide payment receipts, a situation they said could promote lack of transparency in the way such funds are handled.

Speaking on Wednesday, popular blogger James Waikibia stated that the crater continues to remain in a sorry state despite the millions of shillings being collected from its access. 

According to Davies Kirui, a resident in the area, the crater is not well maintained and wild fires continue to pose the biggest threat to its survival. Kirui appealed to the concerned authorities to help conserve and beautify it for the benefit of the whole country through tourism.
