Coalition for Reforms and Democracy leader Raila Odinga has confirmed Prof Ayiecho Olweny as the duly elected Kisumu County Orange Democratic Movement Chairman.
Raila said this during the burial of former Kisumu County ODM Vice Chairman Dave Okwatch in Ajigo, Bondo Siaya County today.
“I am the one who told Okwatch to be the Vice Chairman,” said Raila while raising Olweny’s hand.
He expressed his displeasure at the manner in which people were not taking voter registration seriously in Cord strongholds.
Ayiecho appeared to have downplayed the alleged threats by Members of the County Assembly to attend the funeral of his Deputy Dave Okwach in Bondo.
Olweny who is also the former Member of Parliament for Muhoroni made his away to the funeral in the afternoon accompanied by nominated MP Oburu Odinga.
Mr Olweny indicated that he is not taking kindly the threats on his life and has stated that he will be making an official complaint to the police.
“It is the same people who engineered an attack on me during the Kisumu ODM county elections at Tom Mboya Labour College on claims that my leadership will not protect the interests of the current governor Jack Ranguma,” stated Olweny, when he earlier spoke to the media.
Earlier in the day before Olweny arrived, Kisumu Central ODM Chairman Seth Adui Kanga had started throwing barbs at Olweny for his cowardly act of staying away from the funeral.
“The County Chairman must be courageous enough to come pay his last respects to the fallen official and not stay away following threats,” said Kanga.
