Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma has pledged to offer financial assistance to traders whose property was lost in the Kibuye fire.

Ranguma said he will also approach banks where most traders had taken loans to give traders some window period to recover.

“I will appeal to the various banks where most of our traders had taken loans to give them time to recover and start repayment later,” he said.

He said on Saturday when he visited Kibuye that his government will organise the funds to be given to the traders who were hardest hit by the fire.

Ranguma further asked any leader who wants to offer support to the traders to liaise with his office. He said the fire issue should not be politicized and asked politicians to go through him when giving aid to the traders for proper planning.

He spoke as Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura pledged to give bricks for the construction of the stalls that got burnt. Obura said that he will donate 10,000 bricks and 100 bags of cement for the construction of the burnt stalls.

“As your MP I will offer assistance even to children who are in school and their parents have incurred losses in the fire. I will give bursary worth Sh. 10,000 t each student,” he said.

Ogra Foundation Director Dr Hezron Makobewa who also visited the scene pledged to work together with the affected traders to get assistance.

Makobewa said that the traders must be assisted since some were paying loans while others had children in school.
