Kisumu County governor Jack Ranguma has pledged to support bright but needy students in the county to complete their studies.
The governor said the support will come from his own account, and not part of the Sh100 million bursary fund set aside by the county government.
The beneficiaries of the initiative will be students in Form One to Form Four.
Ranguma said this on Thursday while launching Ramula Health Centre at Ramula location in Ombeyi, Muhoroni sub county.
He promised to sponsor six students from each ward of the county's 35 wards.
The initiative will take care of the beneficiaries' school fees, uniforms and everything else they will need.
"We donated a bursary of Sh100 million as county government of Kisumu. We have given this bursary and each ward will receive Sh2 million. I in my capacity will take six students from each ward. I will pay their fees, cater for their clothing and everything else that they will need until they complete school," he pledged.
Ranguma expressed optimism that the move will change the lives of many people in the region.
"If I do this this year and years to come there will be change in the lives of people as the region will have many educated and learned people," he added.
