A local businessman has termed the spat between Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma and Nyanza Regional Coordinator Francis Mutie over Prosperity House as unwarranted.

Erick Okeyo said the role of the two leaders is spelt out clearly and should not be seen to be at loggerheads.

Okeyo said the concern of the public stems from outright spat over the ownership of the building even in functions.

“It was not proper for Governor Ranguma to bring that issue in front of Uhuru when he knew Mutie would not get a chance to respond,” he said.

Addressing a press conference in Kisumu on Monday, Okeyo called upon Ranguma to seek for dialogue to iron out the issue.

He said the Governor will have to move and look for an alternative office space elsewhere if the national government insists on the vacate notice.

“The government has the machinery to move the governor out of that building and he should ensure that negotiations are done in camera and not the spat we are witnessing,” he said.

During President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit over the weekend in Kisumu, Governor Ranguma defended the renaming of the building to Prosperity House.

He said the name of the former provincial commissioner’s office is archaic and unconstitutional.

“Religious leaders prayed d settled on Prosperity House, more so, the term provincial had been scrapped in the new constitution,” he said.

President Kenyatta failed to comment over the tussle when he rose to speak.
