It has become a recent trend for most Kenyans to register as voters but not participate in elections.
This is quite a strange habit you might think but there is always a reason for everything.
Leaders across the country are urging residents to register as voters without telling them to actually vote for them in the coming general election so that already causes a huge different to a lot of people. There is a huge difference between urging people to register as voters and actually telling them to vote!
Why do people not participate in elections yet they are registered voters?
Leaders need to put measures in place to make sure that residents participate in elections. Most of the people do not participate in elections simply because of the frustration of leaders. They feel that re-electing the same people will never make a difference in their lives because the leaders do not improve anything but simply benefit themselves.
A lot of the residents will have faith in a specific leader, vote for them yet nothing changes. The leader gets into power and does not change anything.
So when we are talking about registering as voters we should also think about how many are going to participate in the elections.
For example in Kitutu Central Ward in the last registration process, more than 17,000 voters registered but, unfortunately, not even half of that number turned out to vote.
