Jubilee Party leadership should consider reconstituting its campaign team in Gusii region or lose to opposition CORD in 2017, a political scientist has claimed.

The current Jubilee team is led by Walter Nyambati, Henry Obwocha, Jimmy Angwenyi, Robert Monda, Prof Sam Ongeri and lately Kisii deputy governor Joash Maangi, who still remains in ODM.

Dr Matunda Nyachama of Maseno University says the current team has lost touch with electorates making it difficult for them to sway the ground in favor of government.

“First we must not disregard the fact that Gusii region is predominantly opposition. The government is likely to lose against due to the current campaign team. Most of those selling the government’s policies are political rejects and this makes it cumbersome to win votes for Jubilee,” he said during Thursday’s interview.

Matunda also argues that the team had done little while they were in power making them receive hostility from the constituents and advised JAP to recruit fresh politicians to help it compete with CORD in the vote-rich region.

“Kisii and Nyamira counties are very vital for any presidential candidate because of the 25% from half of the counties rule to win presidency. But the team being used led by the likes of Obwocha, Ongeri and Nyambati is very unpopular and this makes it easy for CORD to sail through. JAP should change their game plan of face the routine defeat in 2017,” Matunda said.

He says voting pattern is unlikely to change in 2017 if the JAP team is not overhauled and reckoned the tactic used by ODM of using youthful team to disseminate its agendas.

“ODM seems organized because of strong youth league wing and this gives it an upper hand. However, JAP can turn tables if only they trust in the youthful people. Otherwise, the status quo will remain in Gusii,” Matunga added.
