The county government of Nyamira has been urged to recruit more health workers to combat under staffing in health centres in the region.

This comes barely two weeks after the County Public Service Board (CPSB) recruited health workers who will report to duty in January 2016.

Speaking on Monday during a visit at the Keroka District Hospital, Kitutu Masaba politician Shadrack Mose said the county was still suffering from acute shortage of medics and urged the county government to consider recruitment more health workers to sustain the needs of residents.

“I am aware that CPSB recruited health workers but the number cant still sustain our medical centres. There are so many dispensaries that are not equipped or staffed across the county and this calls for urgent response from the county government,” he said.

He said the move will enhance service delivery since many hospitals are said to be operating with volunteers who work part time.

“If you carry out a survey in our public hospitals, you will be shocked to find out that many of the workers are not permanent employees and they are working as volunteers. The county should make plans to absorb them,” he added.

He also blamed county leaders for setting up many health centres and failing to recruit enough medical personnel.

“Our MPs and county government are busy setting health centres around yet they have not made commitments to equip them. That is a serious problem that should be solved,” he added.
