However, there are still long queues being witnessed at major points where the precious commodity is being sold.

Majority of the residents in Mombasa were forced to consume salty water for the past one week, as the taps ran dry.

Mary Mwende, a resident, said life had become unbearable for her and her three children, as they were left with no option other than consume salty water, a move she termed as unhealthy.

“Life has been tough since Monday. I had to drink salty water. I am glad that we now have fresh running water,” said Mwende on Sunday.

The long queues at the water kiosk were enough to confirm the magnitude of the crisis the residents were grappling with.

Aisha Juma, the kiosk owner, said she had been serving her customers since early morning.

“I have been at this kiosk since six in the morning. The queue just keeps on becoming longer and longer,” said Juma.

The residents however criticised the way the relevant authorities handled the issue.

“We have been suffering for the past one week and no one seemed concerned. Where should we run to in the future?” said Anthony Epale, a resident.

The residents raised concerns saying they fear the shortage might recur.
