Kiambu County TNA coordinator Gladys Chania has urged religious leaders to help influence and rally Kenyans to register as voters in the exercise that kicked off on Monday.
Speaking during a church service at St Peters Rock Catholic church in Kimende, Lari sub county on Sunday, Chania said that religious leaders can help influence people to register as voters.
She said that voter registration is an important exercise for all eligible Kenyans to take part in.
Chania said that registering as voters will give Kenyans a voice in terms of electing the leaders who will champion for development.
“Religious leaders should help rally Kenyans and especially the youth to register as voters,” she said.
She urged Kiambu residents who have not picked their Identification Cards to pick them and visit registration centers.
The voter one month voter registration exercise was launched on Monday by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Isaack Hassan.
Launching the exercise in Nairobi, Hassan refuted claims that there was discrimination in allocation of biometric voter registration kits as alleged by a section of opposition leaders.
The IEBC chairman said that voter registration kits were given out based on geographic location and number of people within a location.
IEBC is seeking to register eight million new voters in readiness for the 2017 general election.
