Kisii University Vice Chancellor Prof John Akama has denied reports that 10 satellite campuses of the university have been closed down due to non-compliance with the Commission for University Education (CUE) standards.

In a press statement read by Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs, Prof Morris Amutabi on his behalf, the VC said they had not received official communication for the commission over the closure of the campuses.

"Information going around that some of our campuses maybe facing possible closure are false and disturbing. The information has caused anxiety among Kisii University stakeholders," read the letter.

The letter signed by Prof Akama further said: "This is a chattered university and our campuses were established in accordance with the Universities Act 2012 and the CUE standards and guidelines."

Akama said the commission inspected the campuses in November last year and they were yet to receive the report.

"We have not received official communication from the communication itself. After the inspection of our campuses that took place between November 26-30, 2015, the commission said it was to release a report in two weeks time from the completion date. However, its almost two months now and the commission has not communicated," said the VC.

"We would like to assure the public that Kisii University seeks to provide quality education in accordance with the laid down laws and regulations governing university education of Kenya," he said.

The 10 Kisii University campuses CUE said would be closed after 90 days include; Eldoret, Eldama Ravine, Nyamira, Kabarnet, Migori, Ogembo, Keroka, Kehancha, Kapenguria and Isebania.
