Residents of Katulye in Masinga sub-county have been urged to be vigilant mostly at night to avoid being attacked by hippos that come from Masinga dam.
This was said on Tuesday by Katulye subchief Josphat Ngumbi who said that the hippos come out of the dam in the evenings and invade nearby shambas destroying crops which also poses danger to the residents.
He also asked the residents to ensure their children are not out after 6pm to avoid being attacked by the marauding hippos.
"If possible, people should ensure they have bright light or torches at night in order to enable them see clearly and avoid attacks by the hippos," said Ngumbi.
He urged Kenya wildlife service to deal with the matter as soon as possible as the hippos pose danger to the residents let alone destroying crops.
