Nyamira County now wants the county government to consider deploying more health officers to the local dispensary that operates without a recognised permanent health worker.
The dispensary is served by medics from neighbouring Riongige and Motagara health centres despite having been in existence for the last six years.
Speaking to this writer on Friday, the residents led by aspiring MCA in Bosamaro ward Julius Morasi, accused the county leadership of giving them a wide berth despite writing to the health department severally.
“It’s quite disappointing that we have to wait for nurses from two neighbouring dispensaries yet Nyamiranga has been in existence for six years now. The county government must own the problem and solve it expeditiously,” Morasi said.
They threatened to bring businesses into a standstill at the county government headquarters if the county failed to heed their calls in a fortnight.
“They have two weeks to solve the stalemate. Otherwise we are ready to take our demonstrations to the county headquarters to fight for our rights. We cannot wait to see people dying because of failing to get timely medication,” he said.
According to them, it was difficult for medics from the aforementioned health centres to serve them adequately, leading to long queues and many hours of agony that could no longer be tolerated.
