Residents of Mbiuni Constituency in Mwala Sub-County have been warned against crossing the river using weak vessels.

This is after heavy rains were experienced in the upper part of Athi River filling it up speedily. 

The main areas warned against the danger of the river include Kyawango, Kathama,Yathui and Wamunyu areas who use vessels to cross over to Yatta Sub-County. 

Speaking through a phone conversation on Monday in one of the radio stations, a leader of Kyawango area Brian Kisila has stated that weather forecasts have warned about heavy rains on the upper areas of the river. 

"The people crossing over to Yatta Sub-County areas are prone to danger of drowning when they use the weak vessels to cross the Athi river when the water is at its brim," he stated.

This comes barely a week after a man from Syumbuni area drowned in Athi river in Matungulu Constituency while crossing the river while going home from work. 

Mwala OCPD Henry Kimathi during the weekend also warned farmers against watering their livestock in the river as they could be carried away.
