The officer of Nyamira county commissioner has come under sharp criticism from a section of Mokomoni residents following incidents of robbery with violence in the region.

This comes yet again after a series of attacks on Monday night that saw a number of area businessmen losing their properties with some of them left with serious injuries.

Speaking on Tuesday in a meeting meant to discuss their predicament, the residents through Mr Jackson Magangi accused the office of the county commissioner for failing to respond even after having reported previous incidents.

“This isn’t the first time we are robed and even injured by a group of criminal gangs. The office of the county commissioner is aware of our ordeal and we wonder why she has taken long to respond by deploying police officers to pursue the robbers,” he said.

They threatened to hold demonstrations to demand for improved security in the region if the county commissioner does not respond in a week’s time.

“The truth is that we are tired with these persistent attacks and losing of property to people who are out to harm us. The county commissioner has responsibility to ensure that we are safe failure to which we will hold peaceful demonstrations to seek redress from the head of state,” he said.

County commissioner Ms Josephine Onunga admitted having received the complaints and said her office will work expeditiously to ensure normalcy returns to the region.

“I have received the complaints and my office is working hard to ensure police offices are deployed in the region and pursue the criminal elements before bringing them to book,” she told the reporter on phone.
