Youths from Nakuru on Thursday held a peaceful demonstration over the increased cases of corruption in the county government.
The irate youth claimed that the county could not account for more than one billion as the auditor general report had revealed
Carrying twigs and placards, the youths demanded an audience with the Nakuru county Governor Kinuthia Mbugua.
“We would like to know where the cash disappeared to. Most importantly, we also want to know how the county prioritises its projects," said Mohammed Hamisi, a youth leader.
Hamisi pointed out that there were many ghost workers in the county who took the majority of the county budget. He demanded the immediate removal of anyone on the payroll whose job description was unknown.
“We cannot keep complaining that we have no money yet we are directing our cash into nonexistent people,” he added.
Peter Mureithi called for the immediate resignation of the people in power.
“Unfortunately, they want to vie for a second term and yet the first term was marred by serious corruption cases. It’s a shame that they do not even feel guilty of their crime but spend the whole time campaigning for 2017,” he quipped.
