Following President Uhuru Kenyatta's continued stay in Mombasa, residents of the ancient town have expressed mixed reaction over his tour.
Although State House on Wednesday said the visit was meant to jack development in the region, some residents said the tour is typically political.
Whereas some said the visit was meant to bring development, others said the President was soliciting for votes.
John Mwongeli a resident of Mtongwe said President Uhuru was the President of the nation and had the right to visit every part of the country.
"Uhuru is the President of Kenya and as such, has the right go to any part of Kenya," he said on Friday.
"Anyone who believes that the President is politicking is wrong."
He said the President since he started the visit has initiated several development projects.
Another resident Christine Mwadime on the other hand however disagreed saying the President was campaigning.
"We all know the elections are near and politicians are busy now looking for votes," she said.
"We agree he has initiated development projects, but why did he chose to come when an election is nearing?"
She said since the President arrived at the region, some opposition politicians have announced plans of working with the government.
This, she said confirms that the President was campaigning.
President Uhuru started his visit at the Coast late December 2015.
Analysts says although the President has taken time to woo the Coast electorate, residents still support Cord leader Raila Odinga.
The region overwhelmingly support the opposition leader during the 2013 general election.
