Nakuru residents have been faulted for posting on the social media photos purporting to be of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers who died in Somalia on Friday.
Following an attack at the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) base in Somalia where a number of Kenyan soldiers had died, some people had started posting gruesome photos in the social media claiming they were those of the slain soldiers.
“Posting photos of the fallen soldiers in that state is dehumanizing and shows lack of feelings. Show some respect to the departed soldiers and to the agonizing relatives who do not yet know the fate of their children,” said an aggrieved resident.
Peter Mburu, another Nakuru resident with a close family member in AMISOM also requested that people stop spreading the photos on social media saying the photos were not even real.
“Please guys, I have a close family member with the KDF. Please save us the trauma as by not posting these photos some of which are mere propaganda,” posted Mburu on a WhatsApp group where photos were being posted.
Admins of several WhatsApp groups have also warned members against posting the photos and instead pray for the departed, injured and their families.
