Nakuru residents have raised concern over the theft of tiles that were put up on a monument by the Nakuru Lions Club.

The residents claim that tiles had been disappearing from the monument, affecting its beauty.

Speaking to the press at the monument on Wednesday, located near the Kenya Commercial  Bank, the residents pointed out that the tiles were being removed by a profession mason.

“Every morning we find a new chip removed. Clearly, someone has been removing them in a skilled manner and transferring them to a new place,” said Julius Koech.

Koech pointed out that the monument had barely been there for two months since it was officially opened by the Nakuru County governor Kinuthia Mbugua in October.

“This has been an important venue for youths to come and relax and also to take advantage of the free wifi given by the county government. Why would someone want to destroy our county?”he quipped.

Peter Mwangi now wants the county to appoint security officers to man the area.

“How this happens with the watch of the people in authority remains a mystery. The county should employ law enforcement officers who will ensure that the property remains intact at all times,” he added.
