Hundreds of Nyamira residents have shown solidarity with an ailing From Three student from Nyambaria High School who needs urgent kidney transplant to avert a possible double failure of his kidneys.
Dennis Nyangena’s condition was brought to public attention by a well-wisher, Walter Samuel, in a county WhatsApp forum on Friday morning, and by mid-day, hundreds of residents have contributed Sh560,000 towards the treatment of the teenager.
A section of well-wishers led by Mark Otwoma urged the county government to invest more in health sector in the county to reduce costs incurred by residents when seeking medication outside the country.
“This should be a message to all counties. Time has come to equip county hospitals to handle certain ailments. For instance, it’s disappointing that Dennis is going to India to undergo a kidney transplant, something that will strain the family financially,” he said.
Dr Nyandoro Kambi from Borabu who was among the notable politicians to show support to the ailing student blamed the county government for opening numerous dispensaries without facilities to sustain their operations.
“Instead of constructing so many dispensaries in the name of devolution or through CDF, the leadership should consider investing in facilities to save us from seeking medication in distant nations on conditions that can be handled by local medical doctors,” said
Nyangena is scheduled to fly to India on Tuesday next week following a recommendation from Kisumu’s Aga Khan Hospital.
