As a majority of Nairobi County residents travel upcountry to spend their Christmas holidays with their families, a section of dwellers in Kibera have decided to spend their holidays within citing different reasons.

Moses Onyango said the fares are high and it will be costly for him to take his family upcountry.

He will instead be in the city for the celebrations.

"The fares have gone up and I cannot afford to cater for all of my family members to travelling costs. We will spend our Christmas here but I plan to take my family out so that we can feel the joy of having fun from home," said Onyango.

Peter Mwongeli said he will also not travel home for Christmas but will spend the day in church with other members who will be present.

Agnes Mudavadi, however, said she travelled from Kakamega to join her husband in Nairobi for the holidays.

"We plan to visit any children’s home in Kibera so that we can celebrate our Christmas with them. Children are always funny. I am sure we will have fun when we visit them. However, I plan to surprise him with a new pair of shoes," added Agnes.

Amina Juma said although she is not a Christian, however, she will join the Christians in celebrating their big day.

"We all belong to God, therefore I will make sure that day I cook my best food and celebrate like my fellow brothers and sisters," said Amina.
