A section of Kibera residents have joined other Kenyans in welcoming Pope Francis who is expected to jet in the country on Wednesday.
However, unlike other Kenyans, Kibera residents want the Catholic head to visit the slum rather than visiting Kangemi slums.
‘”Kibera is known to be the third largest slum in the world. Personally, I did not know that Kangemi has a slum. Why then does he want to visit Kangemi and not Kibera? I really wish he could have come to Kibera,’’ said Onesmus Mworaki.
Linnet Wanja also said the Pope’s visit to Kenya means a lot.
“I am not a Catholic. I even don’t remember the last time I went to church but I know the Pope is a senior and respected person all over the world. For him to come to Kenya means the country has some treasure not just to him but to the entire world. Why could he not go to other countries? It is a good challenge. Kenyans, let us remain focused and pray for our nation,” he added.
Nelson Ombati, a boda boda rider said the cleric’s visit should be in Kibera since he and his colleagues could have offered free transport for him.
“I could have carried him on my motorcycle. My friends would have carried his escorts too. I believe we could treat him even much better,’’ said Ombati.
The Pope will end his visit on Friday before heading to Uganda and later go to the Central African Republic where he will conclude his three-nation African tour.
This is the first time the Catholic leader is visiting Africa since his appointment.
