Youths in  Rhonda slums have called on the county government through the department of roads to give them priority in the on going roads renovation project in the area.

The youths on Tuesday said that as locals in the area they were justified to be involved in the project.

Job Weru, a resident from the area said that majority of the youths from the slum had taken to crime and drug abuse due to joblessness.

He said that the county government's project to renovate roads in the area were God sent since they would be employed as casual laborers and earn a living.

"We really thank the county government for this project. However, majority of the youths here are jobless and are in dire need of jobs. Cases of crime have really gone up because the youth are jobless and I believe if they are engaged in this exercise such cases would reduce," he said.

"We are not very happy because some of the labourers we see here are non-residents benefiting on our behalf. We would like to be engaged as the youth in this area so that we can also benefit," said Daniel Omondi, another resident.

The county government of Nakuru recently launched a roads renovation project targeting the western suburbs of the town in which roads within Shabab, Rhonda, Kaptembwa estates have been earmarked for improvements.
