Two assistant chiefs from Riamoni location have warned illegal marijuana businessmen to surrender to authorities before they are apprehended and arraigned in court to answer charges of being in possession of illegal drugs.

Mr Sambu Bosire of Riamoni Sub location and his Riooga counterpart Peter Orina called an emergency Baraza on Monday to discuss the menace which is reportedly being conducted in a nearby trading center of Mosobeti.

They were unanimous that an impromptu crackdown will be carried out to arrest those who were conducting the business.

“It’s a shame walking in every corner of our villages to get our children deeply addicted to the illegal drug. I want to warn those conducting the business that the law will catch with them soon. It’s for their own good that they surrender before we arrest them,” Sambu said.

Orina on his part said members of the community policing and village elders will assist in the operation and urged the local leadership to join the war and save hundreds of school going students who had been wooed to using of the drug.

“We have information of many school going students who are customers of these crooked business people, some of them are addicted and I want to appeal to the local leadership to join us hands in fighting the menace. However, the crackdown will be organized soon and I believe the community policing and village elders are ready for the mission as we want to save the future generation,” he said.

Sambu also urged parents to report children who have been involved in bhang smoking for inclusivity in a guidance and counseling exercise that will also be organized by the two respective administrative offices.
