TNA nominated Senator Joy Gwendo has called on women to climb the political ladder and vie for various political positions in the 2017 general election.
Ms Gwendo said the perception that women are enemies of their own should be discarded.
“This is a tired phrase used by men to deny us the will to ascend to political office. Women are not against their fellow women who are in politics,” she said.
She said women who form the highest voting bloc should seize such an opportunity and push their fellow women to political positions.
The Senator said the challenges that face women in politics should be faced as a team to ensure women deliver more seats than men.
“I know there are a number of challenges that women face in politics, I assure you if we walk as a team we will achieve what we want. It will not be brought to us on a silver platter, we must work for it,” she said.
Speaking at Magadi Centre Manyatta in Kisumu on Saturday during a sensitisation meeting on the two third gender rule, Ms Gwendo appealed to men to give support to their companions.
She said the role of women in any society is very critical and time is up that they be given the opportunity to lead.
“Look at the daily diary of a woman in every household, we do a lot yet men still don’t want to back us for political seats,” she said.
Ms Gwendo said women will not be waiting for party nominations in every election but will spring to the political arena and fight for elective positions.
