Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) grassroots elections at the county level in Nyamira are set to be held this weekend in Nyamira with two veteran leaders expected to face each other.

The grassroots elections in the county were termed ‘excellent’ by party’s secretary general Ababu Namwamba recently even as the party’s electoral body is facing turbulent moments in other counties particularly in Homa Bay.

West Mugirango MP James Gesami is set to compete with Eat African Legislative Assembly’s Joseph Kiangoi, who has also expressed an interest in Nyamira senatorial seat.

On Thursday, Gesami denied reports that he was been favored by outgoing Nyamira county ODM Chairman Timothy Bosire who doubles at National Treasurer and insisted he had the ability to floor his challenger.

“I really don’t understand this rumor because I have been in the party for long and I equally enjoy support from delegates. Those complaining just fear defeat yet there is a chance for them to surrender without necessarily going to polls,” he told supporters at Kebirigo on Thursday.

However, Kiangoi who spoke in a phone interview with this writer claimed there were plans to rig elections out but maintained he will only accept free and fair results.

“I have credible information about the rigging, but I have resided the issue with the elections board. I will only accept free and fair polls and nothing less,” he said when asked about his preparedness.

Gesami lost the chairmanship position in 2011 to incumbent Bosire in closely contested polls.
